underwater surprises

Summary: Killian and Emma travel to Neverland to find the key ingredient to a spell…but find the wrong one first. and it turns out to be underwater sex pollen. And it hits Emma right in the face. There’s only one thing to be done after that.

part of the A Tall Tail universe

Anything Emma had ever known about Neverland—real or fictional, preconceived or actually experienced—was turned on its head when she went below the surface of its waters, especially since she was able to see and breathe this time.

(“Still making us dive in after you, eh, Swan?” Killian had joked after they leapt off the railing of the Jolly Roger into the ocean.

“Hey, it worked, didn’t it?” she joked back, but was glad that no one had to mount a rescue this time.)

She’d become so used to the relatively monochromatic Maine sea floor—its deep greens and blues, with the occasional brightly colored fish—that coming down here was like Dorothy waking up in Oz: fish and coral came in every color of the rainbow, the foliage was practically a glowing neon green, and even the water itself was a clearer, brighter blue, not unlike Killian’s eyes. Maybe all that time here rubbed off on him? she wondered.

The only reason they had agreed to travel back to this ridiculous realm—neither of them were really all that keen on it still, for many obvious reasons—was that it was the only place they could get the pollen of the divided lily, which was apparently a necessary ingredient in finally breaking the spell on the town line. And given that it only grew in the waters of Neverland, and she and Killian were the only ones adept at navigating underwater, they were the obvious choice for this little venture.

(“Won’t we draw the attraction of the mermaids here, though?” she asked as they started to strip down to their skivvies on the ship’s deck before they transformed, listing one of her many concerns.

“Perhaps, but they tend to congregate on the other side of the island; and given that they can’t quite drown either of us, they won’t have much interest.”

“I thought this place was supposed to run on happy thoughts, not morbid ones?”

“Really, Emma? Why do you insist on still believing what Barrie wrote, when you’ve spent far more time here than he ever did and you’re well aware of the disservice he did to my dashing self?”)

Even Killian had seemed overwhelmed at first, but eventually, they got to hunting. She’d seen a drawing of what they were looking for, but apparently, no one had ever taken a camera down here. But what she could remember was a white flower with what looked like a dark section in the middle of its petals.

As they searched, he pointed out various other fish and wildlife, usually commenting on how they tasted (“The giant shrimp are quite the delicacy, but the rainbow trout left some things to be desired.”). But no sign of the lily, and eventually, they reached the cusp of a dropoff.

“Do you think it might be down there?” she asked, peering into the deep blue oblivion.

“It’s Neverland and it’s rare magic; it’s most definitely hidden down there.”

Gripping Killian’s hand with one of hers and the magic satchel Regina lent her in the other (even though it was tied around her waist—can never be too safe here), they slowly swam over the edge and down.

Sure enough, growing on many rocky ledges jutting out from the stone wall of the dropoff, were a massive variety of lily-like flowering plants, drifting lazily in the current and in every color of the full spectrum of colors.

“It’s white, right?” she verified as she scanned the array while they swam over it.

“Aye; just be careful that you don’t—”

“Is that it?” she interrupted, a bright flash of white catching her eye. With a quick squeeze of his hand, she dove to where she saw it, nestled in with some red flowers. When she got close, she noted that it almost fit the drawing exactly: white, with a dark blue section dividing the petal. Well, this was easier than I thought it would be.

Too late, she heard Killian’s warning shout of, “No, Emma—not that one!” But she’d already grabbed it at the stem and pulled, releasing a shimmery, inky substance that she inadvertently inhaled.

They hardly get a moment to themselves and Emma’s sure her mother’s designed it this way – some sort of penance for what she walked in on this morning, but really that was Snow’s fault for not knocking when she knew exactly what sorts of things newly engaged couples like to, well, engage in. There’s this iconic Storybrooke building and that memorable spot and so much walking, walking, walking and Emma’s sort of not joking when she suggests they elope.

She wants this, a big wedding and her happy family, her happy beginning, but God if her parents start bickering one more time she’s going to scream.

“You know I’d elope with you in a heartbeat,” Killian says, gladly indulging in her need to tuck herself up against him in the big empty town hall while her parents excuse themselves to argue in private and Henry ducks into the hall to text Violet. Emma nods, shifting her head slightly so she can breath him in; he certainly doesn’t smell like he took a quick and bracing shower, in fact he still smells vaguely like sweat and sex and damn him if that isn’t doing things to her insides. “Just you and me, the lad as witness, the Jolly Roger…”

“A barrel of rum,” she agrees. “Though we’d have to drop Henry off before we honeymoon.”

“Aye. No use scarring the lad.”

“Not more than we already have.”

He chuckles and it vibrates up through his chest, rumbling in her ear and making her feel all gooey. What she wouldn’t give to just drag him back to the house… “I daresay the boy will want to spend less time with us in the coming weeks. Or months.”

In honor of OUAT Fandom Crescendo here’s the first Captain Swan fic I ever wrote.

It’s a 37k word canon divergence story set (and written) after 3×11.  It incorporates this moment from 3×12 location spoilers that was something JMo and Colin tested in the scene but never made the show:

It starts with a scene from the middle of the story, but then quickly flashes back 24 hours (in case you get confused.)  Lots of characters make cameos, but I was very purposeful in creating a plot that put Emma and Killian alone and working together for the majority of the story.

It’s pretty light comedy/drama and tropes include road trip, hotel room sharing, mild hurt/comfort, tension/argument, Killian vs the modern world and of course a happy ending.

Enchanted Forest – Present Day

The
familiar fishy odor of the pier invaded Killian’s nostrils as his eyes settled
on the small, brick houses he hadn’t seen in a long time. He still couldn’t
believe that bloody witch had tricked them all and cast a curse on them, but
staring at old houses sure wouldn’t solve a thing.

“Emma!”
he knew looking around the Jolly would be fruitless, but he still couldn’t help
but let his eyes wander the deck. He heaved an annoyed sigh when all he saw was
an ashamed Smee sitting on one of the trapdoors, trying to hide a piece of
bread and cheese behind his back.

“Captain, I
swear I was just stopping for a breath,” he used his free hand to clean some
breadcrumbs off his bearded chin before sending Killian a curious look. “Who is
Emma?”

Chapter 5: Looking for treasure

With the giant was taken care of, Emma and Killian wove their way into the… castle? Manor? Something large and

, full of treasure. Killian’s pleased hum barely registered
through her own amazement. Where was this place when she was sixteen?
She would’ve been set for life.

She would’ve been able to keep Henry…

The room spun. She’d been running on adrenaline since arriving
in the Enchanted Forest. Knowing he was okay was different than seeing
it, feeling it. She finally felt almost worthy of him when she got torn
away. Emma took a deep breath. Find the compass, get back, get home.

Which story should I update next? The List? When in Neverland? Or another one-shot? Let me know!

Chapter One: I’d recommend reading chapter one! But this is really all you need to know!

Entry 8
If I had to be stuck in an alternate universe with any person in all the realms I’m glad it was Emma. Seeing her in that red dress I knew that I had fallen in love with her. And watching her snog my former self-ignited lust and anger all at the same time. I just wish she’d kiss the real me, the me that would actually remember.

She couldn’t stop the tears from flowing down her cheeks. Emma couldn’t believe the pain and misery that she put him through. She just assumed that most of the flirting in the beginning was fueled by lust but he truly loved her from the start.

Wait, Emma thought to herself. “He said that he loved me,” she whispers out loud. A grin appeared upon her face as her eyes lit up. Emma couldn’t believe that he actually used that word. Not only did he use it but he felt this way even before their first date! That word wasn’t really in Emma’s vocabulary. Because every time she said it they would leave her. But this time was different. She never felt the need to suppress it. Maybe she never said it out loud but she knows how she feels! She knew with 100% certainty that she was in love with Killian Jones.

Chapter Two:

Emma didn’t know what to do. It was obvious that he knew she read the log, but the question was how much does he think she read. His face turned red with embarrassment. She could tell he was totally mortified.

“Um, love, is there any chance you could just forget everything you just read?” He asked awkwardly scratching behind his ear. A nervous tick of his that she had observed over their relationship. After a few moments of silence Killian tried again. “I’m so sorry, love. I would completely understand if you never wanted to see me again,” Hook let out an awkward chuckle hoping it would defuse some of the tension in the room while averting his eyes and shifting his weight from side to side.

Emma rushed over to him, bringing his lips to hers for a searing kiss. She could tell he was taken aback by her gesture. He fully expected her to run for the hills after everything he admitted in that journal.

She ran her fingers through his dark locks while pressing herself firmly against the hard peeks of his muscles. Even though he was strong and toned, she still felt a soft warmth envelope her whenever she was with him. Her hips moved across his lips to her jaw, kissing every inch of him before pulling back to meet his gaze. “Killian Jones, I love your hook, I love your past, and I love our future. I love that you love Henry and my family. And that you protect me and my heart. I love that even when I push you away you keep pulling me close. I love that you put me first and show me what I deserved. But most of all Killian Jones, I love you. And I’m sorry that it took me so long to say that,” Emma smiled, her eyes glimmering with love and hope for their future.

Killian’s heart fluttered at the sound of her confession of love. “I love you Emma Swan, more than you’ll ever know,” Hook sang as he caressed her soft rosy cheek with the pad of his thumb.

Emma smiled so wide that it almost hurt! Her whole body was buzzing with the feeling of relief and love. But a tinge of guilt crept up inside her. “I’m so so sorry, Killian,” Killian looked confused and tried to interrupt but she pressed on. “ Not just for reading your journal but for all the pain I put you through. I hurt you and broke your heart just because mine had so many walls built around it. I didn’t even think about what this has all done to you. From day one you have given me nothing but respect and support. I hope you figured this out but I never cared about Neal like I care about you. I always would pick you. It doesn’t matter that he was the father of my child, that was irrelevant. Sure I loved him but I never loved him like I love you. Your love is selfless and unconditional, Neal’s was teen love. They don’t compare even in the slightest. And I never truly thanked you for coming back for me and my family when Henry was taken. You offered your ship, your knowledge and yourself. You didn’t have to do that, but you did. You put your life on the line when you could have easily walked away. And I’m sorry that I didn’t trust you when Zelena cursed your lips. You were just trying to do what was right for me but I was stupid and didn’t trust you even though you had never given me a reason not to. And when we were stuck in the past in an alternate universe you stood by my side through everything. You held my me when I thought I had lost my mother and saved my life more times than I can count. You’ve always put me first, and from now on I promise you I’ll do the same,” She vowed, placing a kiss to the top of his hand then placing it to her cheek.

tales of love and loss

winterbythesea:

AU/potentially canon-compliant ghost story set during the missing year, in which Killian hears stories of a ghostly lady in white who roams the seas in search of her lost love. But she isn’t real. She can’t be. (Based on this edit I made which I always meant to follow with a fic, it just took me a while!)

2,990 words | on a03

At first, he has no time for the stories.

Sailors are a superstitious lot, no matter which side of the
law they fall on. It’s a little more pronounced among pirates, he thinks, the
fear fuelled by a guilty conscience and giving wings to imagination.

And it’s lonely out here, on the open sea. The stories give
it a little character, make it feel like a living entity, populate it with
mermaids and sea devils and broken hearts.

Killian has not needed stories for that for a long time.

When he first hears about the lady in white, he scoffs.

“It appears the fishwives have been quite productive in our
absence,” he remarks with a sneer, cutting Smee off before the man can really
get going. “I’ve not heard that one before.”

“That’s because no one’s seen her before.” Smee is earnest
as always. For all his tendency to fear everything and everyone, Killian
considers, the fellow does love his ghost stories. “They say it’s the ghost of
a dead woman. She’s haunting the seas, looking for her lost love, and she lures
sailors to their deaths with her beauty.”

His first thought is of red hair and pleading eyes, and his
heart, ever traitorous, gives a little lurch in his chest. It’s only a story,
he reminds himself, but that doesn’t help, because in another realm, he is just a story.

Not for the first time, he wonders if Emma knows his story,
in the new life that Regina has invented for her and the boy. Does she read it
sometimes, or watch it in that strange vision box? Does some part of her
recognise him?

Has he finally become a victim of fool’s hope?

AN: After months of planning, writing, and editing, I can’t believe it’s finally time to share this not so little story of mine!

A few thank yous: First, to the mods of the @captainswanbigbang for putting this event together and giving me the opportunity to participate. I’m grateful for how this experience has challenged me as a writer, and even more so for the friends and connections I’ve made in the community over the past few months.

Second, words can’t express how lucky I was to get Tessa, aka @the-reason-to-sail-home as my beta. She’s been encouraging throughout this whole process, helping me deal with writer’s block more than a few times and giving incredibly useful feedback. I’m so glad we got paired together and can’t wait to read your own LB story soon!

In addition, I was also lucky to get paired with two artists who made gorgeous pieces for my story! Go check out @treluna2 and @polarbearmorgan’s art- I’ll be reblogging both and posting links to them here once they’re up later today!

Lastly, I have to thank @irishswanff for posting this prompt right before the LB sign ups began. I’ve never had such a strong initial connection to a story idea before, and I hope you all enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

She should have known this day would come.

Emma stood in the kitchen, mouth agape as she read the letter Henry’s teacher had sent home with him:

Parents,

Just a reminder parent-teacher conferences are Tuesday afternoon. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Killian Jones

This was just her luck. She couldn’t believe he was in Storybrooke, let alone working at the elementary school. How could she face him after almost ten years, at a parent-teacher conference of all things?

More importantly, how would she explain to her son that his new teacher was also his father?

She knew the moment he stepped aboard that they’d be together for
the rest of their lives. He may just be a humble lieutenant –
stuttering, nervous, ridiculously polite, stone cold sober – but she
knew he’d be her Captain one day. His brother, Captain Liam Jones, was a
good, proud Captain, but his song would be ending soon. She didn’t know
how, why or when, couldn’t do anything to prevent it, but she knew that
it was on the horizon.

She may just be a ship in the King’s navy – not just any ship, the

Her magic hummed when he achieved, when he smiled and laughed. She

Summary: Emma Swan stumbles upon one of her son’s Author experiments; she and Killian suddenly find themselves in Victorian London. How do they get home? And what does a young Queen and her Prime Minister have to do with it?

Also posted: FF.net / AO3

Chapter 2

“This is your suite,” their guide said, in accented English.
German, Emma assumed, given the Queen’s family background. What had Victoria
called her? Baroness something. The woman looked very unhappy to be showing
them around the palace. “Dinner will be served promptly at seven. You are
expected.”

“Thank you,” Emma replied, hiding her annoyance. Honestly,
it wasn’t like they wanted to be
here. Emma had a perfectly fine home of her own to return to, thank you very
much. “And please thank Her Majesty again for her kindness.”

That seemed to placate the woman a little; she clearly cared
about Victoria very much. “I will do that.” Emma wasn’t all that upset as the
woman took her leave. The sooner they got out of here, the better.

Killian, as always, seemed to sense her mood. “No use
snapping at the locals, Swan,” he murmured as the Baroness left. “They’re
liable to think we’re the crazy ones.”

She laughed dryly. “We’re crazy? You’re a fairy tale
character and I’m a magical savior. That sounds pretty crazy to me.”
