It was definitely very special to do the musical episode and have Emma marry Hook in it […] When we met Emma six years ago, she was so, so guarded that it was so hard to imagine her walking down the aisle so vulnerable, so open and so truly in love and surrounded by her family and all these people she’s been through so much with.
i think we can all agree that proposal 2.0 was iconic in every possible way but i would like to draw your attention to the most important part right after emma says yes
like please look at killian’s face. he breaks out into the biggest smile the world has ever seen. sheer happiness.
they’ve been through so much and something is always in their way but in this one second HE IS COMPLETELY IN LOVE AND INCANDESCENTLY HAPPY AND YOU CAN SEE ALL OF THAT EMOTION BUILT UP INTO THIS ONE TINY MOMENT.
HIS TRUE LOVE JUST AGREED TO SPEND THE REST OF HER LIFE WITH HIM. HE’S FOUGHT SO HARD TO GET BACK TO HER AND TO FINALLY HAVE THIS MOMENT AND IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!
Headcanon that Ariel allows Killian to keep the shell, and that he keeps talking into it in hopes that something he says gets through to Emma (since he doesn’t know if she actually hears him or not). He mostly just keeps telling her how much he loves her and how hard he’s fighting to get home to her. Emma keeps her shell with her at all times and just listens, using it as motivation to do whatever it takes to bring him home.
How you can tell Killian was in emotional turmoil after the post-proposal hug even if you watch on mute: Homeboy didn’t tuck his whole fucking face into the crook of her neck like he usually does because the angst needed to breathe.
This parallel is too amazing because it is both a parallel and an anti parallel at the same time. On one hand, Hook is the one that is putting the bars between him and Emma in both cases, while she is the one that is against it, but while on 2×09 it was all about putting himself first because of the betrayal he felt, in 5×20 it was all about putting her needs first, making sure that she will, this time, go back to her family, to her son (a thing he prevented from her in 2×09).
What’s also very different is that this time around it was him who was “left behind”, he put bars between them to leave himself inside “the prison”, which was the underworld, while she was literally sent up by him, to the world of the livings.
When I first saw the scene on 5×20 I didn’t quite get why they chose to do the ILY and the kiss while the bars were already between them, but this parallel just emphasizes more the power of this script choice (and it was script, I checked back then in the script that Adam gave us of the scene), because while the bars in 2×09 showed their strong separation, not only physically but also emotionally, in 5×20 they showed how nothing can come between them, how they are united even when there is something keeping them physically apart.
Here’s the other take on that script tease though: the one where Killian is giving David a pep talk. Because David is technically under a sleeping curse right now and his daughter is having visions of her own death and he hasn’t spoken to his wife in days with no end in sight, and now Emma is gone, and the Evil Queen is threatening everyone he loves again, and there’s no Snow to believe in him and no Emma to fight at his side.
But there’s Killian Jones. And when Killian realises that David is berating himself, doubting himself, blaming himself, he steps in. He reminds him about which one of them is the hero. Killian is the one who did bad things, not David. David is the man who saves the kingdom and defends the people and fights the dragons. He has nothing to blame himself for.
He is Prince bloody Charming. Killian is Captain Hook. Not the other way around. So if there’s blame to be passed around, Killian will take it, and David can go and be the hero and fight the Evil Queen.
(And David listens. And then he nods, and agrees, on one condition: they’ll both do the hero thing. Together.)
It was my birthday. Royston Sinclair the third, had broken my heart in front of everyone. I had snuck into your closet that morning and took that green beaded top that was your mother’s. That you kept, so carefully wrapped up in tissue paper in your cedar closet. I was never supposed to touch it. But I stole it. And I wore it to school with my Chemin de Fer sailor jeans. And I thought no one was as stylish as I was. Royston laughed, he said I was cheap. He said that the only reason he’d been my boyfriend was because he was mad at Angie Morgan and he wasn’t anymore. He called me loud and weird. And he said there was a rumor going around that I wasn’t actually a Gilmore. That I was the gardener’s daughter and you’d bought me because you couldn’t have children of your own. And I was crushed. And I ran out of class. And I ran out of school. And I went to the mall. And I was sitting in the food court, wishing I had some money to buy a pretzel because I was starving. And I looked up…
