queen-mabs-revenge:

Offering the second to the “I’m not a Poo Poo Head Procrastinator” campaign ( @mossandmushroom look. a thing). A draft that was started over two years ago, fuelled by rage at canon OQ and wine. Lots of wine.

So here’s a 3×13 re-imagining ficlet with some things I wish had been done with Outlaw Queen. Again, very minorly edited because I don’t want to look at it anymore. Bye!

She meets him when she’s destined to forget him. (She would have been glad for it had she known, if truth be told.) She knows him from the crude drawings on his wanted posters –  but coming back from Storybrooke raw and grieving for Henry has her indifferent at best, despite her vicious hunting of him and his men a lifetime ago. Perhaps that imbalance is what pitches them into motion – an outlaw tolerated by the tyrant monarch is hardly in his depths, especially when he is thrust back into his own grieving process after nearly three decades of stagnancy. It’s all very much for either of them to fully process. Truth is that while she puts on a show of annoyed indifference, she is beyond itching in his presence.

He grieves and she rails. She objects and he mistrusts. A despot and a rebel do not easy allies make.

Is CS really who you ought to be blaming for how Robin Hood was treated?

hellowherearemypeople:

It’s fine to voice your criticisms and concerns about the way you feel a show’s storyline played out or how you feel a character was treated.

But I’m wondering why people who are so concerned about the way the writers treated Robin, and his death, spent two days grilling AH on twitter about the CS reunion but basically ignored all the many ways his character was shit on in 5B that have nothing to do with CS.

Why weren’t those harping on AH talking about:

  • Robin’s rapist naming and raising his child
  • Zelena hugging Roland!!! Where are all the tweets about how gross and disrespectful it was to have the woman who raped Robin, and murdered Marian, be the one to give their son his farewell from Storybrooke and the show?
  • Robin being sidelined in basically all of 5B – even Regina centrics
  • Robin, Regina’s soul mate, not being important enough to meet Cora
  • Robin, Regina’s soul mate not being important enough to meet Henry Sr.
  • Robin getting less screen time than Regina’s horse
  • Robin being left out of entire episodes
  • Robin’s POV regarding what Zelena did to him being ignored… then dismissed
  • Regina forgiving Zelena because “sisters” and expecting Robin to just go along with it even though Z never expressed any remorse or regret for what she did to him, his wife, or his son.
  • Regina centric finale focusing not on her pain from losing Robin, but on how hard her struggle to be a good person is when bad things keep happening to her.

I know there were some mentions of the above things, but if you look through AH’s replies it’s clear that the overwhelming number of tweets giving him feedback were focused on Emma kissing Hook after Robin’s funeral.

Apparently the other things weren’t important enough to discuss ad nauseum. Apparently the only “gross” thing that happened all season was CS kissing. Apparently the only way people feel they were disrespected was when Emma had a moment with Hook…

but Robin being ignored/treated like shit in Regina scenes and episodes is OK?

This has been going on since 4B when Zelena reentered the show. And the fact that the writers retconned the Marian story to actually be a Zelena one means that we can now look back and say that Regina’s sister has been dominating the romantic plot line since 4A.Yet somehow CS and Hook are being blamed for everything  – from Robin not getting screen time to Robin getting killed off.

Robin wasn’t traded for Hook – he was traded for Zelena.
Robin wasn’t sidelined for CS, he was sidelined for Mills sisters.

But you’d never know this based on all the tweets AH has been receiving.

Regina didn’t get sidelined in 5B but her romance with Robin sure did.

So it’s hard not to look at the pattern of behavior and criticisms and see it just as more shipping drama.  Don’t you think that AH notices that fans who were previously calling for Robin’s death are now suddenly offended by the way he was treated? Don’t you think he realizes that people are full of it when they claim they are angry because Regina’s character didn’t get due focus because of CS IN A SEASON WHERE SHE HAD THREE CENTRICS…including the 100th episode???

This laser focus on the CS reunion when making complaints to about how Robin, and the O Q fandom, were treated unjustly us just baffling. Because the writers had TONS of chances to use Robin this season, which was very Regina focused,  and they didn’t.

I understand as shippers people feel it’s unfair that Emma got to have her romance continue and Regina didn’t. I understand that people feel it’s unfair that Robin died and Hook lived. That seemed to be the point of the story line – as viewers we are supposed to feel that way. But it’s silly to act as if the writers of a fictional world only have a limited number of romanic story lines they are allowed to include in a given TV show, instead of admitting that the writers opted to focus on a familial story line for Regina rather than a romantic one.

Some Regina fans complained that this used to be a show about family – a show about women. They complained that less romance was needed and more familial focus. And they got it.

In an underworld arc that was supposed to be about facing one’s victims and atoning for crimes we got a whole lot of Regina interacting with her family:

  • Regina resolving things with her father – two Henry’s meeting
  • Regina resolving things with her mother
  • Regina resolving things with her sister
  • Regina coaching SNOW WHITE on hope and how to be her true self
  • Regina on a road trip with Emma to save their son. And magic.

and…

  • Robin died

So maybe…be careful what you wish for? Because Regina fans asked for less romance and more family and they got it. Just not in the way they expected or wanted. Well let’s be honest – some fans got EXACTLY what they wanted this season.

(hint – it wasn’t CSers)

I haven’t talked about Robin’s death yet, but I’m going to throw my two cents in. Many people are saying he was killed off because that was an easy way to have Regina going back to the “Will she EQ or will she EQ not?” dilemma, but I really don’t think that was the case. I think there’s a fair amount of evidence that it was actually the opposite – that the writers having been forced to write Robin off the show was what fully opened the EQ plot possibility that they ultimately decided to go with. If A&E had been planning this long ago there is just no way the story would have progressed the way it did since 3A. So let’s see: (more under the cut)

This is exactly what I think.  Given the points you’ve made here I think their hand was forced.  My personal theory is that it’s a result of a trickle-down effect of Disney’s recent financial problems which are leading to budget cuts.  If you can’t pay someone, you lay them off.  I think they had big plans for Robin and OQ, but something came up and they had to change those plans.  It sucks, but it happens.
