This is a pretty detailed video that illustrates the traditions and references you’ll see in Coco. 

There are a couple of mistakes. (La Catrina started life as a political cartoon, rather than a representation of the Santa Muerte as the video implies; Ernesto De la Cruz is more heavily inspired in Infante rather than Negrete) but overall it’s full of useful information that will help you enjoy the movie even more.

listen up, ya’ll better NOT sleep on pixar’s Coco once it’s released in the US, because it is an absolutely wonderful amazing beautifully done film with so much respect and appreciation of mexican culture. if you let this movie flop in the US becuase some people want to boycott it thinking it’s cultural appropiation WHEN THEY DONT EVEN KNOW MEXICAN CULTURE AT ALL, i’m gonna be so pissed, becuase it’s not!!! it’s was made with the same research and care, if not more, as they did Moana and Frozen. i’m telling you this as a proud mexican who was absolutely amazed by the movie. if you don’t believe me, believe the millions of mexican people who went to see it and broke box office records on the first week of its release. anyways, go watch coco if you can, bye

Have you already seen coco??? I love it. It’s such a beautiful film, I was amazed by the music, the animation, every single detail, the way they represented the mexican culture and the story, god, the story is marvelous. I am proudly mexican and this movie truthly shows how we celebrate Día de Muertos, the importance of our family, mariachi music, even food and clothes!!! Don’t stop seeing it!!!
