Before I begin to talk about this moment, I have to say something about the editing here, because sometimes it seems like the people creating the show don’t really get what they have in their hands with Colin or Jen. The music added to that moment was totally unnecessary and even ruined a bit the master piece of Colin’s acting at that moment.
And that acting was indeed master piece because you can see the process of what I’m gonna talk about below evolving in each single frame.
That look can only be described as the finale battle between good and evil, between love and hate, between heroism and cruelness that went through Killian’s body. If you want, the battle between Killian and the Dark One, to the end, with no survivors (not even him, sadly…).
You can see how it starts, with Killian evoking from the ashes to see the woman that he loves suffers. He doesn’t want to look at it at first because it is too painful, seeing her hurting while he is so deep within the DO. But then his presence is growing little by little, you can actually see the moment in the third gif where both Killian and the DO are equals, if you want, the moment where Killian was getting up and raising the sward to challenge the DO. Then in the last gif you can spot the moment he overcame it, the moment he was wining the sword fight. The man winning over the possession that was able to control him before.
Killian here chose the man he is (not becoming the man he wants to be, he was already that person) over the power that the darkness gave him. Many haters criticized the fact that he only resist when Emma was in pain, and not when the others were about to be sent to hell (including Henry), well it would have been ideal for him to resist before, but seeing Emma in pain provoked her heart’s protector to raise from the ashes.
That season’s motive was about using love as a weapon. Killian was weak to fight the darkness when he felt the woman that he loves didn’t believe in him or trust him to resist it. He regain himself when true love brought his real self back to the surface to a final battle between the man he is, and the man he despises most, and it was his weapon to push it away from within himself and defeat the darkness once and for all. Because I don’t agree with Killian’s words, he doesn’t risk his life for love, revenge, or himself. He’s doing it only for love.
All hiatus long I’ve been thinking about the Captain
Swan proposal spoiler. When I first
started thinking about a CS proposal and wedding, I was wondering if anything
could be extrapolated from the Snowing and Rumbelle proposal scenes to give a
clue as to how a CS proposal might go down.
It seemed a natural progression to also look at the Snowing and Rumbelle
wedding scenes to see if anything could be taken from those scenes as well to
predict what could happen in a Captain Swan wedding. Now that we have a hint that that a CS
wedding could happen this season as well, I decided to put everything down in
one post and get it out there before it’s too late.
Two caveats before I start rambling on – First, Emma is
A&E’s original princess, OUaT is her origin story and her journey to
finding her happy ending by finding her family, her home, and her TL. Because of that, I think it would make sense for Emma’s
engagement and wedding to break the mold, if there is one, and have each of
those occasions be something completely unique to her and Killian instead of a
mirror or parallel the one that have come before. [Not that I’m letting that stop me from making this post!]
Second, I’m using Snowing’s first wedding for the basis
of this comparison/analysis because it is the one we were able to view in its
entirety, and the more spiritual union versus the second, interrupted wedding,
which seemed likely to have been performed more for the public.
Ok, now on with, well, with whatever this is…
Summary of
Analysis Applied to Emma & Killian:
The location of the proposal, whether the proposal
itself is spontaneous or planned, should be some place that is symbolic of Emma
and Killian’s power as a couple.
The “ring” (i.e., the item exchanged at the moment of the
proposal), I think, will be something that holds meaning to Killian, and
something Emma already knows about and how much it means to him.
The location of the wedding, again, whether the event
is spontaneous or planned, should be somewhere that is symbolic of hope and
restoration to both Emma and Killian.
Finally, the person performing the ceremony should be
someone whose persona represents the core value of Emma and Killian as a couple.
I love the contrasts, especially the mother sacrifice and the father’s approval since we are basically in a season that’s all about child-parent relationship.
*****THIS ONE IS EXTRA LONG AS IT’S 2 SCENES IN 1*****
So here are two scenes from 3×21,
The wench outfit & jealous Hook
“Come on, Swan. Let’s get a look.”
And he’s got the nervous tick going too. Emma’s nekkid, behind that tree stump, and he’s a gentleman…. but they’re also short on time and have to get moving.
He’s probably had to stand there, staring into the moss on the bark around him while various grunts, huffs and ruffles of clothing come from behind that tree.
BOOBS.
SWAN BOOBS.
No but bless him. He loves Emma just the way she is and how she dresses. And he’s hardly been in Storybrooke that long. The world is all new to him.
And now here’s Emma. The woman he’s mad about, dressed in the clothes of his realm. The clothes he’s accustom to.
And it’s like a fantasy come to life for him.
It’s almost like that scene in every damn teen movie where the ‘unpopular’ girl walks in with a make over/prom dress on, and the boy has trouble picking his jaw up.
*Takes deep breath* This is probably gonna be another lengthy one.. I’m sorry!
WARNING: It’s really long and angsty (obviously lol)
i want to start with this shot.
Nimue’s just began choking Emma.
Killian is still replaying that memory of his father’s murder in his head.
He’s zoned out, trying to keep his mind on the pain that’s coursing through him. He’s letting the darkness completely take him because Killian Jones has nothing left.
And he looks up at her – and you can see he’s trying to hold on to that pain and anger, trying to tell himself that this is justified.
This is what happens when someone you love hurts you in the most unimaginable way.
He’s probably thinking this is just like the situation with his father – someone he loves has used him once again for their selfish gain. Left him as a slave for someone else’s use.
He’s forcing himself not to care, because he’s done. He’s hurt and betrayed and he’s got nothing else left other than the thing that’s kept him company for centuries. Revenge.
But he can’t do it.
He can’t bear to see Emma in pain.
This isn’t the same as Brennan. This is nowhere near the same.
looool I don’t think I came up with the idea mate but thank you for the compliment! :p
Now hold on to your butt cos this is probably gonna be a long one!!
Argh! My angsty little heart gobbles up this beginning bit.
Look how alone he is.
A whole party going on inside and he’s by himself. In the dark. Wallowing in the silence, probably believing that he doesn’t belong.
Killian fucking Jones, you make my organs bleed with hurt.
And the last person he expected to join him was Emma.
And he gets a bittersweet little smile on his face, locking away whatever emotions he was drowning in and schooling himself for whatever she’s come to talk to him about.
This guy has walls too.
Bless Emma.
I genuinely think she jus didn’t want him to be on his own.
She missed him.
They’d just gone on an adventure together, been by each other’s side through thick and thin, and when they were finally back and the danger is gone, when they’re celebrating, she wanted to turn and see him there by her side still. But he wasn’t. He was alone and so she sought him out.
Gave him companionship when he deserved it most. And chose to talk to him, include him, to talk about their adventure now that it’s over and done with.
And he flirts and banters with her, keeps his tone neutral.
And she enjoys it. Encourages it.
This is comfortable for them.
This is what they do.
This is their comfort zone – their equal footing.
But milady has that dance they shared fresh in her mind and his compliments are having an effect.
Her downplaying his flattery is different.
She’s not rolling her eyes or jibing back snarkily… she’s smiling and speaking softly. She likes his compliments and believes them this time.
And then she drops the thank you.
AND LOOK AT HIS FACE
THE SURPRISE
THE RAW EMOTION
“What? She’s thanking me? What for? Last time she thanked me was in.. oh.”
Deckhand Killian is by far, one of my absolute favourite Killian’s (sorry Lieutenant Jones!)
Look how uncertain and clueless this adorable munchkin is.
And Emma is revelling in it.
She gets to be the one with all the knowledge.
She gets to be the one with years of fighting experience.
She gets to educate the 300 year old pirate in things she’d learnt from him.
It’s glorious.
This time, Emma gets to tease and flirt and leave him flustered and blushing-
Emma gets to play.
But it’s not for one-uppmanship, it’s done with tenderness.
Killian is practically a clean slate of all the things that make him brave and courageous and such a skilled survivor.
And Emma has the honour of showing him everything he’s about.
She gets to prove just how much she knows him.
THIS PART RIGHT HERE
THAT LITTLE “oh!” HE SQUEAKS OUT.
I swear, it wouldn’t surprise me if Emma pinched his cute little hiney before sliding her hand to grasp his waist, cos that’s the kind of noise he makes – AND I LOVE IT.
And Killian… dear sweet deckhand.
He probably thinks he’s in a dream. He’s stolen the most cutthroat pirate’s ship with the help of a teenager, broke into a prison, fought a dragon and has currently got the most beautiful woman he’s seen, pressed up against him and teaching him how to sword fight.
It must be so overwhelming for him, yet he handles it like a trooper.
I love this shot.
To me, it’s a role reversal if you will.
Emma’s in the position of supporter – she’s holding him up, taking the reins and reeling him in with seduction, showing him how it’s done, leading him – the role that’s typically left for the male in romantic situations.
And Killian is the the one leaning on her. Trusting her, hanging on her every word and losing himself in her sensuality. The role typically meant for the woman.
And while he’s completely smitten and getting lost in her beauty, she’s smiling because she knows the effect she’s having.
It’s a role reversal and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
I just had to put this shot because EMMA IS SLIDING HER ‘SWORD’ INTO HIS ‘SHEATH’
Please take a moment to think of all the sexual innuendo…
And we’re back!
How sweet is this?
She’s telling him all about how close they are, and he’s completely besotted with this magnificent woman who charged into his life.
And Emma loves this.
She loves him.
Every version of him.
It doesn’t matter if he’s the cocky teasing pirate, or the brave romantic man of honour, or the shy & almost virginal deckhand, she loves him. However he may come.
It’s a perfect companion piece to the ball scene in 3×21. Where Killian was the one showing her and wooing her, this time she’s showing him and wooing him.
So the reunion scene. It’s one of my top fave scenes. It’s just…. argh!
So first there’s Emma. She hears that infamous “Swan?” and turns.
It can’t be. No this must be a trick.
It’s not. Oh god it’s not a trick. He’s really there.
He’s back.
She can’t believe it.
LOOK AT THEM RUN INTO EACH OTEHR’S ARMS.
Emma wastes no time. He literally stumbles backwards at the sheer force of her embrace.
And they’re fused together. They never ever thought they’d see each other again.
The thought of trying to move on too hard for them to bear.
their hands
are everywhere.
Their need to make sure the other is real. That this is real. They they’re both there.
LOOK HOW HAPPY.
SHE IS SHOWERING HIM WITH LOVE BECAUSE SHE NEVER THOUGHT SHE’D EVER GET THE CHANCE TO AGAIN.
SHE’S NOT TAKING IT FOR GRANTED NOW.
AND HE’S LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT. BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE WAS OFF TO A LIFETIME OF BEING WITHOUT HER ONCE AGAIN. BUT HE’S HERE. AND SHE’S ALL OVER HIM.
AND THIS IS KILLIAN’S HEAVEN. RIGHT HERE IN EMMA SWAN’S ARMS.
AND HE’S STRUGGLING TO GET THE STORY OUT
But Emma doesn’t care how. She doesn’t need the how’s and the why’s all she needs is him and she’s got him.
She’s not a care in the world other for than the man in her arms.
And bless his damaged heart – he can’t get enough either.
Look at him leaning in for more.
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN TWO PEOPLE MORE BLISSFULLY IN LOVE?!
There’s only one word for this image: RELIEF.
I just – it’s so beautiful and raw and true.
After all their fighting to make it work and all the trials and trauma they’ve been through.
Having to say goodbye to each other so many times to the point they thought that it was the end; that they’d never see each other again.
That death had finally won out and they were to face another life with love lost.
And they made it.
They finally made it. And all that struggle seemed worth it in that moment because for those few wonderful moments, they were together and okay and more in love than ever.
Ugh. Imma cry.
SEND ME A CS SCENE AND I’LL GIVE AN ANALYSIS WITH SCREENCAPS.
Remember that time Captain Swan kissed in Good Form, and Going Home, and Snow Drifts, and There’s No Place Like Home, and A Tale of Two Sisters, and Rocky Road, and The Apprentice, and Smash the Mirror, and Fall, and Heroes and Villians, and Darkness on the Edge of Town, and Poor Unfortunate Soul, and Lily, and The Price, and Broken Kingdom, and Nimue, and Birth, and Broken Heart, and Swan Song, and The Brothers Jones, and Firebird, and Last Rites, and An Untold Story, and The Savior, and The Other Shoe, and Street Rats?*
Like some of these were just…
like…
the hottest…
most intense…
kisses…
on the planet…
Don’t you just love Captain Swan?!
*There’s honestly so damn many that I probably forgot to list an episode or two. I also didn’t factor any non-lip kisses in this, otherwise we’d be here all night listing episodes. 😛
remember that time she left him at the top of a beanstalk and then he locked her in a cell and then she punched him out and ditched him in another dimension and then the next time he sees her (he just got hit by a car btw) and he’s like Heeeyyyy BEauTIFUL! Killian Jones and Emma Swan, everyone.
Killian Jones motto: never let a couple of broken ribs get in the way of your flirting with the tough, bloody brilliant, blonde lass who bested you.
