So I’m reading about the Olympic ice dancers Madison Hubbell and Zach Donohue.

First: I’m reading up on them because my husband said “Hey that dude kind of looks like Colin O’Donoghue” and I was like “Sorta?” so I googled imaged searched, and it has spiraled from there.

Second: their story literally sounds like a Captain Swan Olympic Ice Dancer AU waiting to happen.

  • Hubbell spent the first 10 years of her career dancing with her brother before they decided to split in 2011. Donohue competed with four other partners before linking with Hubbell.
  • Hubbell dreamed of the Olympics since she was a kid, and it’s why she got into skating. Donohue accidentally stumbled into it as a teenager while he was being a jerk.
  • “We Hated Each Other” Before they were partners, they were competitors. Hubbell said: “Our mutual coach at the time kind of forced us to start skating together just to kill time. We didn’t really want to skate together. It was fate.”

Like… that’s some serious Killian-approved v-neck action going on in his outfits.

Someone WRITE the thing please! I cookies and fan art if you want!

I’d read it!

Emma Swan went to Britain looking for family. It should have been a Hallmark movie, a Christmas miracle waiting to happen. Instead she’s stuck in a grimy London ‘flat’, with the worst next door neighbor in the world.

Well, maybe not the worst.

Ok, here it is! My contribution to the @captainswanbigbang ‘s little bang! Thank you so much to all the mods for organising it and for all your hard work. Specifically I owe a blood debt to @phiralovesloki for being an awesome beta, my heart on a platter to @katie-dub and @killiancygnus for cheerleading and, of course, a million thank yous to my incredibly talented and lovely artist @shady-swan-jones who sent me a prompt a year ago and had to wait a reaaaaally long time to see it come to fruition in a way she almost certainly didn’t expect! The fact that we were paired together makes me grin like a loon Sophie, I hope I did you proud.

As well as the beautiful banner, @shady-swan-jones has also created X this gorgeous artwork for the first half and this X beautiful spoilery piece too! I am a spoilt writer.

Thanks for the title Death Cab. And the tears.

Emma Swan has never really been one for romantic comedies. They aren’t made for the likes of her – a woman described as prickly by her friends and rather less flatteringly by the vanishingly few dates she’s had over the years. No, romantic comedies are really more Mary Margaret’s thing, full of hope and joy and promises that things will get better if you believe in yourself, Emma.

(She believes in herself just fine, as it happens. It’s other people she struggles with.)

It makes sense, then, that her vague memories of watching one such movie years ago are of being curled up under a blanket on Mary Margaret’s college futon, her attention carefully focused on the television and not on the way David’s hands roamed over Mary Margaret’s knee. Public displays of affection were even less appealing to her than some stupid movie’s ideas about the perfection of true love, and that’s why she remembers most of it even now. There were lobsters, for sure, and something about pornography that made Mary Margaret gasp. (She hopes that was the reason. Maybe her memory blanked that part out.)

And at the end, a beautiful airport reunion that made David sniff surreptitiously against Mary Margaret’s shoulder.

Her experience of London’s Heathrow is nothing like that.

She arrives on a miserable foggy November night, clutching her single case and blinking grit from her eyes in the overly bright arrivals hall.

She steps through the late night crowd waiting for loved ones and out into the darkness, struggling to read her new address from the back of an aircraft napkin in the dim glow of an orange street light.

(Peckham. Mary Margaret had said, a little furrow between her brows even as she tried to smile. Sounds fancy.

If you’re a chicken, maybe. David had muttered, pulling Emma against his side. Do you have to go?)

She did.

Everything Comes Back to You (1/1)

once-uponacaptain:

Summary: Ready for a change in their lives, Emma and Henry move from New York to her hometown of Storybrooke. But she gets a bigger change than she bargained for when Henry’s new teacher is the ex-boyfriend she hasn’t seen since college … who is also Henry’s dad, and doesn’t know he has a son. AN: After months of planning, writing, and editing, I can’t believe it’s finally time to share this not so little story of mine!

A few thank yous: First, to the mods of the @captainswanbigbang for putting this event together and giving me the opportunity to participate. I’m grateful for how this experience has challenged me as a writer, and even more so for the friends and connections I’ve made in the community over the past few months.

Second, words can’t express how lucky I was to get Tessa, aka @the-reason-to-sail-home as my beta. She’s been encouraging throughout this whole process, helping me deal with writer’s block more than a few times and giving incredibly useful feedback. I’m so glad we got paired together and can’t wait to read your own LB story soon!

In addition, I was also lucky to get paired with two artists who made gorgeous pieces for my story! Go check out @treluna2 and @polarbearmorgan’s art- I’ll be reblogging both and posting links to them here once they’re up later today!

Lastly, I have to thank @irishswanff for posting this prompt right before the LB sign ups began. I’ve never had such a strong initial connection to a story idea before, and I hope you all enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

She should have known this day would come.

Emma stood in the kitchen, mouth agape as she read the letter Henry’s teacher had sent home with him:

Parents,

Just a reminder parent-teacher conferences are Tuesday afternoon. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Killian Jones

This was just her luck. She couldn’t believe he was in Storybrooke, let alone working at the elementary school. How could she face him after almost ten years, at a parent-teacher conference of all things?

More importantly, how would she explain to her son that his new teacher was also his father?

Sneak Peek: The Journey to Gold, Part 2

searchingwardrobes:

I have several one
shots that people have been asking for sequels to. Believe me, I have heard
those requests, and I can’t begin to say how much they mean to me! Readers
wanting more? What a huge compliment!

My plate is full
right now, but I wanted my readers to know I am working on their recs. So, I’m
posting a little sneak peek of my upcoming “sequels.” Thank you to everyone who
has sent me asks, messaged me, reblogged my stories, and left kudos and comments
on Ao3. You all are awesome! Tagging @galadriel26 @shady-swan-jones

              Emma
is 15 and Killian is 19 the first time he kisses her.

              But
Emma doesn’t consider it a real kiss.

              It’s
the first time trying a new lift on the ice. They’ve practiced it a dozen times
in the gym, but the ice is always different. Especially the dismount. Killian’s
blade hits a divot in the ice, and though he recovers quickly, he loses his
grip on Emma’s arm.

              The
ice is coming fast, and Emma screams, but before her head can slam into the
cold surface, she’s jerked upward. There’s a loud snapping sound, and she
screams again, this time in pain. She collides hard with Killian’s chest and he
cradles her in his arms.

              Later,
in the hospital, they won’t let Killian in to see her at first. Ingrid finds
him pacing and brooding. When he sees her sitting up in the hospital bed, her
arm in a sling, he chokes back a sob before striding quickly across the room.
She’s frozen in place as he grasps her face in his hands and gives her a hard,
swift kiss on the lips.

              “God,
you scared me,” he whispers hoarsely as he presses his forehead to hers. But
afterwards, he goes right back to the way things were before.

See, she tells herself, it wasn’t a real kiss.

The Girl in the Water (1/3)

gusenitsaa:

Emma follows the ships sometimes,  her father really wishes she wouldn’t…  Bad things happen when you get too close to the ships.

Killian looks out over the water sometimes.  Liam really wishes he wouldn’t.  Bad things happen when you get too close to the water.

Chapter 1 of 3 and it’s all @queen-mabs-revenge ‘s fault.  Thanks for Betaing @icecubelotr44!  Read on FF

Because @queen-mabs-revenge started reblogging the sea maid / the little mermaid artwork.  And then I saw THIS gorgeous thing she made (GO LOOK AT THE THING, It’s beautiful!) and suddenly I needed a mer!emma, CS and Jones Brothers AU:

All written, just pending final edits and formatting.

There was a girl in the water.

Killian stood on his tiptoes to see better,  leveraging his all too little height and leaning precariously over the water to try to catch sight of her again. That flash of gold amongst the waves that had been following them for days…  He thought he might have seen her again – just a shadow and a splash of color hidden under the water – when he was wrenched back by a tight grip on his forearm.

“Don’t do that!” Liam’s voice was harsh but there was a fear behind the anger that made Killian’s chest clench abruptly.  He hadn’t meant to scare Liam again.  Liam was only a few years older than himself but something in his eyes was so much older.  Had been since the day the light went out in the night and no one was there to watch it.

“There’s… there’s a girl,” Killian stammered, trying to explain. “There’s a girl in the water, Liam.”

“That’s no girl,” Liam corrected sternly, eyeing the waters darkly.  “Stay away from the water, little brother.  Promise me?”

“Younger brother,” Killian retorted stubbornly.

“Promise me?” Liam repeated, his grip tightening unknowingly on Killian’s forearm until Killian winced and Liam let go abruptly, an apology forming on his lips.

“Aye,” Killian reluctantly agreed, “I promise.”

Liam ruffled his hair,  relaxing visibly, “Come on Killian, Before Burke has both our hides.”

The Journey to Gold: Part 2

searchingwardrobes:

Everyone can thank (blame?) @galadriel26 @cynmoon and @bravebuttercups for this fic getting out of the gate first.
Their constant figure skating posts had my muse going nuts. So thanks, ya’ll!

This isn’t a sequel
to the first part. Instead, it’s filling in the rest of their story, their romance
in particular. Therefore, it’s got a bit more angst. I tried to keep the
simplicity of storytelling that I used in the first part, but I can’t lie, it
was difficult with the story I wanted to tell. There were so many times I went
back and deleted things and re-wrote it in a more streamlined way. Especially the
intimate scenes ( wink wink). Anyway, I hope you all like it as much as part
one. I know I enjoyed writing it!

Two scenes had
outside inspiration. The elevator scene is adapted from the 90s movie The
Cutting Edge. It was my absolute favorite movie in high school, so I just
couldn’t resist! The other is the you tube video of ice dancers Virtue and Moir
playing The Newlywed Game.

Rating: T (but again
only for one teeny line)

Words: Almost 3,000
(yeah, see? I struggled with the simplicity thing …)

Emma is 11 and
Killian is 14 the first time he calls her a tough lass. They’re finally old
enough with enough experience to attempt a throw. First in the gym, then on the
ice. Either way, Emma takes the brunt of the abuse, falling again and again and
again before they get it right. Yet every single time, she picks herself up,
lips set in a firm line, muttering, “again.”

After practice,
she has to ice both hips while Killian ices his shoulder and elbow. He winces
when he sees her bruises, then gazes at her with admiration as he says, “You’re
a tough lass, Swan.”

At least lass is
better than baby.

              *******************************************************

Emma is 13 and
Killian is 16 the first time he gets overprotective. He’s in high school and
driving now between practice and school, while Emma still walks the three
blocks between the rink and her junior high school.

A couple of weeks
into the school year, a senior from Killian’s school named Neal takes notice of
Emma during her walks, especially in the morning. He cruises along the curb,
talking to her, complimenting her, and yes, flirting with her.

Killian warns her
he’s a loser who has a reputation for trolling younger girls. “Our school isn’t
even on the way to yours, Emma! That guy is a creeper!”

Killian’s lectures
only make Emma pissed. He’s treating her like a baby, as usual. And Neal’s
attention feels good, she won’t lie. He tells her she’s beautiful, and she
blushes. He says something slightly suggestive, and she giggles. The more
Killian clenches his jaw and fumes and worries, the more she flirts with Neal.
Until finally, one day, he offers her a ride, and Emma accepts.

#FrostJones

Ice dancing duo Killian Jones and Elsa Frost barely made the cut for the PyeongChang Olympics after a disaster at the World Championships that left them without a coach. Enter Emma ‘The Saviour’ Swan, their new coach who might just help to add a little magic to their routines.

AKA a Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir AU, with a twist.

The wonderful @welllpthisishappening Master of the Sports AU told me that she had a prompt for a Virtue and Moir AU and I had the thought “shame they’re just great friends”. Somehow this idea was born and Laura and @distant-rose told me to “WRITE THE THING” and here we are. Thanks ladies for enabling me and giving this a once over. All mistakes are very much mine.

#FrostJones

A Song of Fire and Ice: The bumpy road to PyeongChang for America’s ice dancing duo Frost and Jones

Eyebrows were raised when fiery Killian Jones, who missed out on the Sochi Olympics due to the infamous attack that left his former partner (both on and off the ice) dead and his hand gravely wounded, teamed up with solo figure skating champion Elsa Frost, whose icy characterisation and flawless technique earned her the title of Ice Queen. The unlikely pairing narrowly qualified for the Olympics after a disastrous performance at the 2017 World Championships left them with barely enough points to make the cut. That event also saw them part ways with their coach, Leroy “Grumpy” Short, following a rumoured face off between him and Jones. With less than a year to go to get medal-ready, in stepped Emma “The Saviour” Swan, who has a reputation for rejuvenating the careers of failing figure skaters. Here’s hoping The Saviour has worked her magic on Team USA’s ice dance duo, who are merely hoping for a place on the podium, while Virtue and Moir…

Killian flung aside the newspaper, scowling. He really didn’t need to read more about the bloody Canadians who were certain to beat them to the gold, not least of all in a piece that was meant to be about his “road to the Olympics”.

Almost Believing, This One’s Not Pretend

welllpthisishappening:

They don’t grow up skating together.

They don’t even want to start skating together.

But then life happens and they kind of need each other and maybe that sentence means a lot more than either one of them are willing to admit at first. Or ever. So they keep skating and, sometimes, winning and, always, ignoring the questions. There are a lot of questions.

Because how could two people have so much chemistry on the ice when they’re just partners?

Rating: That upper teen again. There is a lot of swearing in ice dancing.
Word Count: About 12K total because, lolz, words, but only about 5K’ish in chapter one.
AN: I continue to have no chill whatsoever about the Olympics and I said I wasn’t going to write a skating fic because, as I told my husband, “it’s too obvious, I want to write about the random sports.” But then you guys were awesome and my brain was like write it, so here we are. A huge thank you to the people who sent me messages and were also like write it, because that is honestly the nicest. That, naturally, includes @katie-dub & @distant-rose.
Also on Ao3 & chapter two here because, uh, it’s a lot of words.

“It’s fine.”

“Yuh huh.”

“It is fine.”

“Say it one more time.”

Emma scowls, narrowing her eyes, but Elsa doesn’t back down and she didn’t really expect her to because the word fine has, at some indeterminate point, stopped really meaning anything and she kind of feels like a broken record.

That’s a very old sentence.
