Filming 6×03 – “The Other Shoe” – August 3rd [x][x][x] [1,∞] – Killian and Henry having some kind of mock sword fighting with sticks. Emma walks by and exchanges words with them (by the gestures, probably tells them to move). Reports say Emma’s words when walking in were something like “Shouldn’t you be at school?” [x]. Then, Henry and Killian look at each other and Henry hurry up to pick up his bag. Finally they are all seen running in the same direction.

Killian doing some mock sword fighting with Henry hits me on so many levels because one of the reasons Captain Cobra is so beautiful too me is because of how it connects to Baelfire. Killian is a link for Henry to his father. Killian knows things about Neal that Emma and Rumple don’t, he had a different relationship with him and I have zero doubt that Bae and Hook used to spar or mock sword fight. I don’t think Killian gave Neal all of his sword fighting training he probably picked the basics up other places. We know that after Rumple became the Dark One nobody would spar with Bae for fear of hurting him and becoming escargot. And we know that Hook gave him a cutlass and that Bae felt confident enough with it to challenge Hook directly when he discovered who he was.

So imagine this brave kid who wasn’t allowed to get a skinned knee around his father being presented with a cutlass because he was a pirate and expected to defend himself. And then imagine Hook patiently teaching him and smiling proudly as Bae perfected a move. And imagine how for all these years those memories have been tainted by the betrayal that followed. Every time Killian thought of them he was reminded of just how low he sunk for his revenge. But now those painful memories can bring happiness once again because they can help Henry connect with his father. Help him discover the parts of him that are also a part of his dad. But at the same time Killian gets to make up, in a small way, for abandoning Bae. He gets to make sure that Bae’s son isn’t abandoned and that he knows about his father.

And that’s what is so beautiful because Killian is a link for Henry but Henry is also a link for Killian.

Speaking as someone who liked Boy Baelfire but strongly disliked Adult Neal, this was beautifully worded.

As someone raised by a step parent who took the place of an absentee father, and someone currently raising a child with a significant other who is not the biological father of one of her children, but who is the only father he’s ever known, the Captain Cobra relationship is very important to me.

It is absolutely infuriating that the exact same people who preach about and USE the importance of family to further their ship-related agenda would turn around and undermine a positive familial relationship that is underrepresented on not only this show, but in television in general.

It is infuriating but not at all surprising.

I am so happy that this scene exists, whether it makes it onto the show or not I’m happy it happened, I’m happy for the Captain Cobra scenes we’ve had up until this point, and all the scenes we will have with them in the future, because it IS an important relationship and one that has been developed and grown since S3 whether bitter hater Bad Apple Anti’s like it or not.

I agree wholeheartedly

And just to be clear
I don’t think that Hook is more important to Henry than Regina. The show definitely NEVER shows that. Regina is Henry’s mom and Emma is Henry’s mom. But those close relationships that his moms have are important.

Thank you for posting this!

This point here is very important too T’Lynn, I honestly I’m baffled by the idea that just because Henry has a positive and loving relationship with one of his mothers True Love that means that now his relationship with Regina is destroyed, human beings don’t have a limited amount of familial love to give, this would be like saying that because I have a positive and amazing relationship with one of my sisters in-law that my relationship with my other brothers suddenly don’t matter. It’s simply preposterous to think that way.

Plus, Henry WANTS to have all the family love, he loves ALL his family members, and he has a very, let’s say, varied family tree now, so if we truly care for this characters and want to put ourselves in their shoes, why would we want them to have interactions and loving familial bonds just with ONE character (or two in this case)? Henry has so much love in his life now, and for a kid that canonically felt alone and isolated for a good chunk of his childhood honestly the fact that he now has “more family than he can count” (which btw was something Regina told him back in S3) is something that should make us happy for him honestly.
