We at ET are thrilled to confirm that Once Upon a Time’s highly anticipated musical extravaganza
– which will air Sunday, May 7 – will also be the episode in which
Emma Swan and Killian Jones get married.
(We’re just going to pause
here for a second to let that glorious news sink in and for the
subsequent screams of excitement die down. All good? Great! Now take
another deep breath and keep reading…)
ET had the pleasure of visiting Once Upon a Time’s
set in Vancouver, Canada, last month during filming of the musical
matrimony, and we asked the star-studded cast what their initial
reaction was after discovering that Emma and Hook would be tying the
knot in season six’s penultimate episode.
“I thought it was perfect,” Jennifer Morrison gushed to ET during a joint interview with co-star Colin O’Donoghue.
“We just felt, like, what better way to make it feel extra special than
to have [the wedding] also be the musical episode?”
From recording the original
songs, to learning the choreography and finding the inspiration for her
wedding gown, (more on that later!) Morrison revealed that working on
the musical episode has been a career highlight.
“It’s been so fun!” the
38-year-old actress exclaimed. “I mean, I feel like I just keep
repeating myself: It’s just so fun! it’s just so fun!”
“You’re going to have a
whole article of Jennifer saying, ‘It’s just so fun!’ over and over
again,” O’Donoghue said with a laugh.
When asked how they would
tease the episode for the fans, the actors were quick to cut to the
chase.
“It’s a musical episode
where Hook and Emma…” Morrison began thoughtfully.
“Get married!” O’Donoghue
chimed in with a smirk. “Teased! Boom!”
“Oh wait, you mean without a
spoiler? Umm, but it’s a spoiler, on top of a spoiler, wrapped in a
spoiler!” Morrison dished. “Hook and Emma find themselves on a brand new
adventure that changes the rest of their lives. Wait, that’s not good.
Hmm, OK. Hook and Emma follow through on a critical decision…”
“With music, and dance, and
some mighty fine romance!“ O’Donoghue added.
Although we’re not going to
reveal any specific episode details at this time, we can tell you that
Morrison and O’Donoghue are well aware that Captain Swan fans are going
to completely lose it when they see Emma and Killian’s wedding.
“I hope their brains
explode!” Morrison giggled playfully. “I mean, I hope they enjoy it as
much as we have. It’s been so fun. I just said it again!”

Can Hook and Emma’s relationship survive Once Upon a Time‘s latest twist?
Though Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) had initially mulled running away after Emma (Jennifer Morrison) uncovered he was responsible for the death of David’s (Josh Dallas) father, a run-in with Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) made him change his mind. Unfortunately, Gideon (Giles Matthey) trapped Hook on Captain Nemo’s (Faran Tahir) departing ship, therefore making Emma believe Hook has abandoned her.
Even so, O’Donoghue is optimistic that the duo can weather this new challenge. “He realizes he can’t run away anymore,” O’Donoghue tells EW. “He’s not the same Hook. He has to confront the issues and deal with them head-on and whatever happens happens, which is part of who he is as a changed man. Unfortunately, Gideon sends them away, and now it’s a case of he’s banished and he’s got no way of getting back to Emma, so she’s got no idea that he actually was going to come back and try and deal with it.”
Therefore, Hook will attempt to work his way back to Emma, but it won’t be easy. “He’s beyond desperate,” O’Donoghue says. “We saw in the last season that it is true love. He’s so desperate to get back to the woman that he loves. He’s already lost somebody that he loved years and years ago and this is an even stronger love, if that can be possible.”
So, where is Hook heading? “He’s going to find himself on a circuitous journey to try to get back to Emma,” executive producer Adam Horowitz says. “It might take a pirate to a land that is very unfamiliar to him, which is a desert, perhaps a desert like Agrabah.”
Hence, while stuck on the Nautilus, Hook will come into contact with a number of familiar faces, chief among them Aladdin (Deniz Akdeniz) and Jasmine (Karen David), who are just as desperate to save their land from Jafar (Oded Fehr). “We’ll also see him interact with Nemo, we’ll see him interact with Liam, his half-brother, which is great because you get to see them deal with their relationship a little bit more than we had seen before,” O’Donoghue adds. “We come across Black Beard and Ariel, which is always fun. The Black Beard stuff is really good fun because these are two pirates trying to outdo each other.”
What’s your favorite thing about Emma and Henry’s
relationship?
I think it’s the fact that Regina is kind of henry’s mom
Mom and you can kinda say that Emma is like his cool mom.
Do you think Henry still misses Neal?
I think Henry does still miss Neal. I mean I know there are
probably times when he’s not as bad but I think there are also times where he
really wants that father figure and um to be honest I think that Henry is gonna
like having Hook around as kind of that new father figure in his life.
What is your favorite ship from the show?
My favorite ship from the show is probably Captain Swan.
What has been the hardest scene to film emotional this
season so far?
Um, to be honest I think the hardest thing for me to film
emotionally this season was getting mad at Colin. Getting mad at Hook in
episode 6 because I mean I’m really not an angry person most of the time and um
and it’s really hard to get mad at Colin because he’s such a nice guy
Thoughts on Captain Swan?
Captain Swan is awesome.
How are Jen and Colin on set?
Jen and Colin on set are awesome they’re like, well
everyone on set is like my second family and they all are amazing and it’s an
honor to work with them.
Which episode this season did you enjoy filming?
I enjoy filming every episode, but probably episode 6
because it was really, really cool to have all those bonding moment between
Hook and Henry and I got to see a part of Henry that or we got to see a part of
Henry that he usually doesn’t show which I think is cool.
Which member of the cast makes you laugh the most?
